Merry Christmas week everyone. We are nestled among the beautiful hills in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in a BLM campground call Tuttle Creek. This is one of the most beautiful places I think we've seen on our travels. This area is home to Mt. Whitney which is the highest summit in the contiguous United States and the Sierra Nevadas wth an elevation of 14,505 feet.
While driving around the area we kept passing by this rock, so of course we had to stop and I had to take a picture. After a quick search on Google I found out that this is called Nightmare Rock. The large boulder is dimpled in a way that inspires artists to transform it into a face - sometimes cute, sometimes psychotic.
Lone Pine, CA is also known for being the backdrop to over 100 westerns and classic films. They have a very cool museum that you should visit. We have a video on our video page of this historic town, go take a look!
